Let the kids be the kids…

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to photograph two friends Erica and Yana. It was one of the most challenging but rewarding photo sessions I’ve ever had. First, I had to break the ice with each of them in its own way.  Secondly, It took me quite some time to figure out the best approach. I was trying to direct them at first, trying to engage them in conversation. But then I realized, the best thing would be to let them be the kids and do their own stuff. So I let go…I didn’t ask them to pose for me…at all. I was just watching them. When I left their place, I had mixed feelings about the session and I wasn’t sure I would be happy with the result. But after some editing, I think the result is beautiful.

Their moms did a great job putting everything together for the session. They prepared three different outfits. So we decided to start off with red&white&blue theme.

Here are the very first shots…Still breaking the ice…

And now the fun part starts…

Then we moved on to a green&yellow theme. They have this beautiful photo paper wall at Yana’s place. So it served us as a green backdrop.

And of course, there was a fight…

And some quiet time after the fight…

Some feelings were hurt…

And then there was peace again…

And then we got them change the outfits and let them relax and have their snack on a couch…while I was trying to get some nice close-ups…

I had such a great time with this girls watching them laugh and play, fighting and laughing again. This is what the real friendship is….

Liza’s Birthday Party photo session

Two weeks ago I was invited to photograph Liza’s 3rd Birthday. The party took place at the Princess Castle (76A Brunswik Blvd. DDO).

While waiting for the guests to arrive, we started off with some portraits of Liza and her parents.

Speed photo sessions

Last week a friend of mine asked me to run a super quick photo session. They have moved recently into a new home so she wants to create some wall art for the living room. As I arrived, their little girl was already getting tired. So we had to be super quick. We shot for maybe 10 minutes tops and here is the result:

And here is what I suggested her as her living room wall display:

Wall display

That made me thinking…maybe there’s people who want just a couple of new family pictures to update their wall displays. Or maybe they need a nice portrait of their growing child but they don’t want to have a full-size photo session and, on the other hand, they want something more customized than a chain store. Well, for such occasions I decided to offer a new service for a limited time: “speed photo session”.

For $150 you get:

– a brief pre-session consultation over the phone or email

– a 15-20 minutes photo-session. Only one outfit and one set up is allowed (if it’s on your couch, then it’s only on your couch; if it’s in your backyard, then it’s only in your backyard…)

– 6 edited images via direct download

– wall display project (prints and frames are at extra charge)
